Now, I have been known to pass out at the most minimal and non invasive of surgeries. When I got my ears pierced I fainted cold and had to go back the next week to get my other ear done. It is therefore with horror that I make an appointment to go to the dentist, whether it is for a check up, a filling or something worse. I must admit that I prefer tranquil, sedated dentistry. The first few minutes are the worst, when he puts in the initial anaesthetic, but then the numb feeling starts to take over and my panic subsides a little. It is still by no means pleasant, but at least I know that I stand a fair chance of getting through the treatment without fainting or running out with my paper apron trailing behind me. (more...) When it comes to family dentistry you should make sure that the whole family visits the dentist on a regular basis to get his or her teeth checked. Take your child to the dentist when his or her first tooth appears and certainly no later than the first birthday. Regular visits now can mean a great deal of heartache is prevented in the future, as not only will you be making sure that their teeth are in good health, but you will also be taking the fear out of going to the dentist as they will be used to the dentist's chair and accept it as a normal part of life. Of course, make sure that you do not feed your child with too many sweet things, especially those foods with lots of sugar such as sweets and cakes – but bear in mind that many foods such as fruit have natural sugar, and so make sure that they learn to brush their teeth on a regular basis. (more...) I have always liked eating hard sweets, and never had a problem until a few Saturdays ago, when I heard this almighty cracking sound. At first, I wondered what it was, then I knew what it was but pretended otherwise. A few seconds later, I felt the pain and could not pretend anymore! I needed some emergency dentistry, and quick! Fortunately, I had some weeks before, entered a series of numbers into a new mobile phone that I had bought, and one of these was for my local dentist. I gave them a call, not expecting much, but was pleasantly surprised that they could help me out. Rushing down there as fast as I could, I explained my situation, and they saw me there and then. I can't possible describe the relief that I felt, as I thought that I was going to have to live with the pain for a couple of days minimum! (more...) Like many people, I have always been a little self conscious of my teeth. I know they are not brilliant, and I feel reluctant to smile because I am not proud of the state of them. This has affected me over many years, and finally, I decided that I would do something about it. I had been to a dentist for a regular check up, and seen a brochure with those smiles before and after in it. Plucking up the courage, I decided to ask for an appointment. Cosmetic surgery is the term they use for the procedures that I wanted done. These can range from teeth whitening through to dental implants. Luckily, I did no need any dental implants, but I did need some other things done to give me the teeth that I had always wanted. (more...) I do a lot of exercise in my spare time, and one of the thongs that I most like doing, is going to kick boxing lessons. I really enjoy the buzz that I get from it, and I have never had a problem until two weeks ago.
Amusingly, it wasn't the kick boxing which was the problem, but the packet of peanuts that I ate after a training session. I was happily eating and chatting away to a friend, when Crack!. My first thought, was "What was that?" my second thought was I need a new tooth. So, it was off to the dentist. I was a little concerned that my insurance would not cover the work, but as it turned out it did, which was an absolute result. It turned out that I needed ore work done than just the tooth which had snapped. The tooth snapping was just a symptom of some bigger problems. (more...) If you are one of the many people for whom the dentist is something of a nightmare figure, the chances are good that your perceptions are grounded in fairly old fashioned ideas about dental practice. If you remain scared to visit your local surgery on account of drills and needles, you will be pleased to know that things have changed somewhat. In the past, dentistry was, by necessity, full of procedures that were uncomfortable to endure. Drills and injections are perhaps the two most feared elements of a spell in the dentist's chair, and both of these are slowly on their way to being replaced. Today, a high-tech dentist has access to equipment which makes your appointment at the surgery far easier. Laser treatment, for example, is used in soft palette surgery and because it involves no cutting or penetrating, it is completely painless. (more...) If you have just moved to a new area you are bound to be looking for a new dentist to take care of your teeth. This process may be a little nerve wracking for you, especially if you are something of a nervous patient.
However, with a little guidance and some common sense, you should find that you end up with the right dental professional for you. Begin your search practically; personal recommendations are an excellent way to get good advice. Ask neighbours and new friends in the area if they can recommend a good dentist. Try to draw up a list of potential candidates in this way and write them down. Once this is done, get online and do some basic research into each practice. Simply type Royal York Dental, or the equivalent, into a reputable search engine and scour the results. Pay special attention to any client or customer reviews that you might find as well. These will give you a good idea of what a dentist is like to his or her patients. (more...) Your smile is an extremely important feature of your face. If you don't feel confident enough to grin when you are happy, then the chances are your teeth are badly affecting your self-esteem. Luckily, today, there is a wide range of cosmetic dentistry options available to remedy your dental difficulties, and restore your sense of pride in your smile. If you are considering having some cosmetic work done on your teeth, you will want to make sure that you book a consultation with a good cosmetic dentist. This will allow you access to an expert opinion, and will also help you to determine which of your cosmetic dentistry options you should take. You may, for example, only need to opt for porcelain veneers to rejuvenate your smile. These are thin, porcelain overlays which are applied to the teeth in the same way a false nail is applied to a finger. They help to disguise staining and pitting, and they also contribute to giving you an even, regular smile. (more...)
